i hate spokane

It's an odd mix here. For the most part, the people in Spokane are very cool, nice people. That is one of the biggest pros for us about Spokane. This is what attracts us to Spokane, and I think it'd be a perfect mix of urban and outdoors that we would like. I hate that these systems are so slow to change, but so quick with their ability to destroy the things I love.

I'd hate it because this wasn't my cup of tea then. And I cannot imagine the traffic being worse than Houston (especially dealing with the aggressive driving mentality here). That small minority isnt being dealt with appropriately and ruins it for everyone.Downtown as a crime magnet is totally overblown. In the 10 years I lived there, acres of prairie and coyotes were almost entirely replaced with more useful things like strip malls, housing developments and Target.I hate the one fish per year that is safe to eat out of the Spokane River.I hate a half-empty downtown after 40-plus years of discussing how to fill it. It became so scary and toxic, it cost me and my partner a lot of fear and greif. I felt the same way when I was 18 and was beyond happy to move away to a "real city". I think Spokane can gain a lot from folks moving in from different places, so please stay! You'll be hard pressed to find a better mid-sized city than Spokane in terms of livability.Madison Wi, Rapid City SD, Anchorage AK, Eugene Or,... Not hating on Spokane but I could make arguments for each of these mid sized cities.I actually do love living here, but one time I did find a homeless guy shitting in the alley behind by house. There are a couple of "ok" malls but aside from that doesnt set my world on fire. It’s often above freezing during the day, so that snow melts. I dig downtown and I love that the place is getting better and better seemingly by the month (pandemic aside....).So, really, even though Spokane is small, it often offers many completely different experiences. Until you get 5–7 miles outside of town, most of the buildings, houses, stores, and apartments are old and dilapidated. By using our Services or clicking I agree, you agree to our use of cookies. I did my research and chose to move here. Housing is fairly cheap in Houston as well, but i think spokane still has it beat. No lakes, no rivers, no hiking paths, no activities, the arts were a joke there, zero culture, zero opportunities unless you were a farmer, desolate barren land, winters with months of -20 to -30 days, about 3-4 chain restaurants, the worst school system in my entire state, a place where you can’t get a livable house for under $300k but the min wage was still $7 an hour.

I'm pretty happy here overall, and I imagine you would be too.Hope my rambling gives you some idea of how things are here!Hope my rambling gives you some idea of how things are here!Spokane has a lot of pros, particularly if you're more of an outdoors typeYes, we are!
0 1 1. Still here almost 10 years later and never want to leave.
Maybe having a degree from Texas would be a plus in the job market there? You might love it, but it takes a special person to really love Spokane.Lived here all my life and I am that special person :-)I love it here overall. The Knitting Factory Concert House and Spokane Arena usually host some decent events throughout the year (Go Shock!

While we moved north 2 years ago, there was a distinct bloom of street sleepers with the associated rise in property crimes. The average school expenditure in the U.S. is $12,383. Portland and Seattle are several levels of hell worse, and they aren't as bad as it gets.Love: outdoors stuff. We’re looking at a budget of $250-260k for our first house, so I don’t really know what neighborhoods are affordable, in that range and also safe? You'll be hard pressed to find a better mid-sized city than Spokane in terms of livability. Recipe for Swedish Pancakes: Passed down from my mother I’m really trying to decide long term if Spokane is the place for us to lay roots and buy a home and whatnot, but I’m really struggling to find answers to the questions I have.We want to stay in Washington, and for a temporary situation Spokane seems fine... but Inthe long run, is this a good place? Our idea of fun is getting out and hiking and camping, which seems like the area has a lot of options available; and from what you have said, it seems that Spokane has a lot to offer in the form of entertainment anyways. So that is nice.I am sure I'd get tired of the snow, but for now, thats a plus... and the option to ski / snowboard in the winter.Born and raised in Spokane. If you can find reliable employment and a good area for your family (schools and home), it's great. There's nothing much that hasn't been said in this thread. One thing I have to add is make sure you have good car insurance and don't leave valuables in visible places in your car. Is there another town that has the amenities of Spokane, that might be better?IMO a lot of people that bash on Spokane have never lived anywhere besides Spokane. Most of the people I surround myself with are people who appreciate this town.

I could never live there. Now that we live on the upper south hill, I feel spoiled rotten that I no longer have to sleep with a weapon next to the bed.The official subreddit for Spokane, Washington, and all other communities in Spokane County.Press J to jump to the feed.
